The founding fathers selected the name Citizen so it would be "Close to the Hearts of People Everywhere" and soon after adopted the company's formal name, Citizen Watch Company. During the last seventy-five years Citizen has expanded its business throughout the world and has achieved recognition as the global brand. The past twenty-five year period has coincided with the company's dramatic rise to its current position as the world's largest watchmaker, a distinction Citizen has held every year since 1986. Beyond sheer size, Citizen is also recognized as a worldwide leader in advanced technology. From the world's slimmest LCD watch to the first voice recognition watch and the world's first professional dive watch with an electronic depth sensor, Citizen's record of "world's firsts" is unmatched. More recently, Citizen has staked out a new position as the leader in Ecologically Friendly timekeeping with its Eco-Drives watches that are light powered. With models ranging from dress models to sports models to professional dive watches, Citizen Eco-Drive runs continuously in any kind of natural or artificial light for a lifetime of use. Fueled by light, it never needs a battery. Eco-Drive Frequently Asked Questions How can you tell if the Eco-Drive watch is getting enough light? In normal use, the watch displays the time and the sweep-second hand moves in one second intervals. A very important feature of Eco-Drive is the Low Charge Warning Mode which as a result of low battery voltage, causes the second hand to jump two seconds at a time (while still keeping correct time). How long will an Eco-Drive watch run after it is fully charged? If your watch is put away where no light is available to it while in a fully charged state, depending on the model, it will run for from 45 days to 5 years. How can the Eco-Drive watch be recharged? Besides sunlight, it can be safely charged by exposing it to a fluorescent desk lamp, with the dial (face) up and within about 8 inches or an incandescent lamp (regular light bulb) no closer than 20 inches. Never use a halogen lamp since the heat generated by it can cause damage to your watch. The most efficient and the quickest is in direct bright sunlight (not windowsill) and never on the dashboard of a car. | | | Features: | |

Stunning look and Eco-Drive with some readability issuesMar 24, 2010 I have the blue-face dial and metal link band and it is a great looking watch. The "steam punk" retro look of the day of the month is a great touch, but since the numerals are somewhat deep in the face, there tends to be shadow cast over the numerals, making it sometimes difficult to read. Also, the silver ring around the second hand mini-dial at the bottom of the face obscures the minute and hour hands, which are also bright silver. (When it's 8:20, the hands almost disappear in dim light). The Eco-Drive is phenomenal, check the specs on the Citizen web site. This particular watch requires 30+ hours of direct sunlight to fully charge, but then it's good for a year. It's a thick watch, but not too heavy and very nicely balanced (it doesn't feel as obtrusive as it looks). The metal wristband is very high quality also. Overall, a great looking watch that you may need to squint at sometimes to read. The glow-in-the-dark markings don't glow for a very long time either (about 15 mins). The combination of Eco-Drive and perpetual calendar (set it once, and it's good for AGES) are remarkably convenient.

A solid watch at a good price. 4.5 StarsOct 28, 2009 I bought this watch for a few reasons.
- I liked the style, modern with classic elements.
- The two date element caught my eye, nice and large with also a classic look.
- Does the basics well....show me the time and show me the date (in a size readable for my 45 year old eyes!).
- Does not require either winding, wearing, or batteries due to Eco-Drive technology.
The watch was shipped (or at least fulfilled by Amazon and arrived in perfect condition with all boxes and manuals.
My impressions are quite positive.
Pros:
- Perpetual date setting. Set the number of years since leap year, the Month, and the Day of the Month and the data is perpetually correct for something like the next 100 years.
- Once again the styling, A perfect blend of modern and classic elements. I actually like it better than the displayed picture on Amazon. It should be noted that the face is actually a very dark blue, so dark I'm not sure I would have even noticed until my 17 year old commented on the color.
- About the right face size.
- The dials and dial face have glow in the dark markers...don't think I'll use much, but a nice touch anyway.
- Eco-Drive...no batteries and seems to work well right out of the box.
Cons:
- You could be left on a deset island for 10 years with this watch and not be able to figure out how to set the date without the instructions. The printed instructions are confusing and don't actually appear to be quite accurate. On the plus side, the watch ships with a mini-disk that provides a reasonably quick walk-though. Word to the wise....don't lose the disk as you will need it again when the watch power runs down!
- The watch is a bit thicker than I prefer. Just a personal preference, some people like a large thick watch; I'd prefer it to be ~20% thinner. The thickness is likely due to all of the tech stuffed into the case (Eco-Drive, etc...).
- Don't love the watch band, it seems designed to be upscale, but I'd prefer a simple buckle strap. Also no instruction on how to adjust the clasp, I'm sure it's an easy process, but who wants to break a new purchase yanking on clasps?
- Last con is a bit neurotic (but at least I know that!). The two date displays (one for each digit) are set at a slightly different depth in the watch (I'm sure due to the inside mechanism), as a result, the display for one of the digits is more offset, has a bit more shadow, and is a bit less bright as it is more recessed and receives less light.
All in all, I really like the watch and would definitely purchase again!
Highly recommendOct 20, 2008 I did quite a bit or research on this watch prior to purchasing and I am very happy with it so far. The watch looks great, has a high quality leather band, and has drawn many compliments so far.

Citizen Watches and Eco-Drive Technology RockAug 07, 2008 This is my second Citzen watch, and my second Eco-Drive. I have a modest collection of watches at varied prices, technologies and styles. Included are battery powered Quartz models, Mechanical Automatics (European), and two Seiko Kinetics. I love all of them, and all have a place for different uses in my life.
In my opinion, the search for minimum maintenance, high quality, dependable and accurate time-pieces is fulfilled in all respects by Citizen with the Eco-Drive line of watches.
The new Eco-Drive Calibre 3100 Perpetual Calendar series is one of the classiest designs to come out in many years. Once set to the proper leap year, current year, month and date, and after a suitable initial charging period, it's ready to go indefinitely with no further adjustments or power issues. As another reviewer said, it's a true "Grab and Go" time piece.
Aside from the superb technical features, already described, here are a few things that I love about this version of the Calibre 3000:
The all stainless steel case is solid and well-made. The case design has a bit of a retro-look, remiscent of classic watches from years gone by with soft curves, a simple, uncomplicated style with a subltle stepped side that circles the entire case.
The dial is a beautifully designed combination of classic styling with a subtle use of classic Romal Numerals combined with sharp modern accents.
The bold and stunning date dials utilize separate rotating numerical discs which serve double duty; firstly they are cleverly utilized for the initial set-up of the perpetual calendar, and secondly as a simple but bold and strikingly classy looking date display. Once the initial set-up has been properly completed, the date will always be correct, ALWAYS, with no need to ever adjust it again, ever. As long as the power reserve cell is kept charged by the invisible photo-voltaic solar cell, it's a forever situation. As long as there is light, any kind of light, it will never fail.
Back to the design. The face is a combination of multiple landscapes which add a modern distinctive look to the classic case design. Precisely placed markers are so designed and clearly visible as to make telling the time "at a glance" an effortless process. The second's sub-dial in the lower eye is highly visible, classy to look at, and at the same time does not interfere with observing the hour and minute hands. There's a discrete 24-Hour sub-dial at the nine o'clock position that quietly, but effectively differentiates between AM and Pm time keeping.
The high quality leather band, tooled with a "Crocodile" design, is heavy duty, padded, and yet light enough to be superbly comfortable. This watch features a push-button deployment clasp incorporated into the band for added safey and security. A very thoughtful and high-end addition for this high-quality mid-priced watch. As a unique feature, the band is custom made to extend past the lugs to provide a snug almost seamless curved fit against the case. Again, a feature usually seen on much more expensive, high-end products. I have large wrists, and yet this watch fit me like a glove straight out of the box. It was instantly comfortable. there is plenty of room to size it down for smaller wrists if needed.
Every thing about this watch exudes quality. I am extremely fond of several watches in my collection. This one just may zoom up to the top of the list. Citizen has tastefully, and thoughfully come up with a style that will look appropriate in just about any situation, casual, sport or dress. Well made and backed by Citizen's reputation for quality, dependability and longevity, this is one of the most inovative and overall coolest time-pieces to hit the mid-priced market in many years. I've only had it a few short days, and I already love it.
Amazon had it to me a week earlier than promised, and shipping was free. Combine this with the discount price, it's one of the best purchases I've made in a very long time.
If you've been thinking about buying a Citizen Eco-Drive Calibre 3100, think no further. Today this model, in all versions, is an innovative masterpiece. In time it will become a world-renowned classic.
Enough of the superlatives. By now you probably deduced that I am very stoked to have this watch in my collection. My biggest problem will be to try to set it aside from time to time in order to enjoy wearing the other watches in my collection.
Citizen and Eco-Drive Rock -- Perhaps even "Rule"
